Postma Center at Pine Rest, Grand Rapids MI

Ethics and legal mandates are more than guiding principles, they are foundations for practice. This seminar will provide an overview of the Code of Ethics and laws as well as explore the many slippery slopes in boundaries and dual roles, social engagement, use of media, confidentiality, etc. Focused attention will be given to the changes in the Code of Ethics (2017). A model to guide decision making will be explored. This training will also discuss that vicarious trauma is an occupational hazard in child welfare and juvenile justice that often leads to lack of job satisfaction, job productivity, and negative outcomes for youth and families, workers, and workplace. Prevention and self-care can best happen when professionals are able to distinguish and identify personal and professional vulnerability.
